We’re sharing the key tax dates and deadlines you should mark in your 2025 calendar to ensure you’re on time and ready for the UK tax season.
As of 6 January 2025, 5.4 million people still have not yet filed their tax returns, which are due at the end of this month. With a late penalty of £100 for anyone who misses that deadline, consider this a little nudge to anyone who may still have a tax return to file!
In that vein, we’ve collected the key 2025 UK tax dates and deadlines below. Whether you’re operating as a small business, sole trader, or side hustler, grab your pens and get ready to mark your calendar with the dates you need to know to stay compliant and avoid penalties.

These deadlines recur across the year on a monthly basis.
If you use payroll software to send an EPS and FPS to HMRC, ensure these are in by the 19th of each month.
If you pay your PAYE monthly, like many do, then the 22nd is the monthly deadline for PAYE payments to reach HMRC. If you intend to pay by single payment direct debit and you’ve never set one up with HMRC before, give yourself plenty of time as this takes 5 working days for the funds to reach their destination.

Your online self assessment tax return for the 23/24 tax year is due by 11:59pm. That’s the filing deadline as well as the deadline for the first payment on account. So, if you’re hoping to set up a payment plan with HMRC directly, you may want to give yourself a little bit of time in advance.

Don’t forget, company owners and landlords often need to file Self Assessments as well, since dividends and rent are taxable income and need to be reported to HMRC.
Not just that, but if you’ve been running a small side hustle or business for a while now, and you’ve just broken past the £1,000 earning threshold, you will now need to start reporting your income through Self Assessment.
Filing tax returns using paper rather than digitally? While your digital counterparts can file on 31 January 2026 next year for the 24/25 tax return, you will need to file yours before 31 October 2025.
